Refuat HaNefesh Spiritual Support Group

A safe and loving place where people struggling with mental illness and brain disorders, their family, and friends can meet confidentially and openly name how their spiritual life/faith can help with mental health challenges. Together we will share and hear how faith and a reliance on a Higher Power can be helpful when coping with this illness. We also share methods that help us move through times of difficulty and articulate our sources of hope and strength.

  • First and Third Tuesdays of every month at 6:30pm, facilitated by Rabbi Deborah Bronstein and Dr. Jed Shapiro
  • Second and Fourth Wednesdays of every month at 10:30am, facilitated by Rabbi Deborah Bronstein and Reggie Gray, LCSW

Community as Family

Share  experiences and enhance our relationships.  If you are a congregant, approximately sixty years old or older, interested in social-emotional support, information about aging issues, and possibly aging alone, Community as Family is for you. We are a monthly drop-in, welcoming, inclusive support group committed to creating and strengthening positive connections within the elders of our synagogue. We encourage consistent participation in order to maintain emotional trust. Periodically, we bring a speaker to the larger Har HaShem membership on topics of relevance to our aging population.

For more information, please contact Cantor Avery or Harriet Edelstein.

  • Fourth Monday of each month from 11:00am-12:30pm

One to One

Do you want to speak with someone who has experienced a life event similar to what you are currently or recently struggling to move beyond? Connect with another congregant around a shared experience.  The goal is to offer support to members who wish to speak with someone who individually or within their family has had to face physical or mental illness, loss or other hardships.

If you have questions or would like to be connected with a volunteer please contact David Bernstein.
