What is a Chavurah?

Chavurah comes from the word Chaver which means friend in Hebrew. A chavurah is a group of friends! The difference between a chavurah and any other social group is that all members make a commitment to the group to meet regularly as a Jewish(y) social group about once a month.

How do we ‘Chavurah’?

Typically each month one household is the ‘host’ - this may look like hosting the group at their home, planning a meet-up in the community, or coming to services at Har HaShem as a group. Oftentimes when Chavurot join together for a Shabbat dinner each household brings a dish to share.

What kinds of activities does a Chavurah do?

lt's up to you! Your group can enjoy a Shabbat dinner together, have a Chanukah party, build a Sukkah, even go camping if you're so inclined. Each chavurah determines the types of activities it wants. 

How do you get a Chavurah together?

After returning a completed Chavurah interest form below, you will be "paired" with others who have similar preferences. Once your Chavurah has been created, we will have a meet and greet where the Har HaShem Chavurah Coordinator (Shira Keshet) will  help break the ice and explain more about how a Chavurah is organized.

Membership Policy and Procedures

1. All Chavurah members must be members of Congregation Har HaShem.

2.   In the event that your Chavurah wishes to add a member, please update your Har HaShem Chavurah coordinator so we can keep Chavurot information current. 

3. Make sure you are respectful of all members in your Chavurah and come to a collective consensus before adding new members.

4. As new members join Har HaShem, our staff might reach out to your Chavurah to ask if your group would be open to welcoming in a new family. We will not add a new family to your Chavurah without a collective consensus.

5. Each chavurah is asked to advise Har HaShem of any changes in membership in order to keep our information current.
