Resolution for Approval to Move the Congregation

Purpose: The Building our Future Task Force expects to make their recommendation to an Extraordinary Board Meeting on February 23, and it may be to move from our campus. If the Board accepts a recommendation to move, it will be brought to the Congregation for approval. This Resolution sets forth the requirements for the approval of a move.

Background Information: Article X on page 12 of Har HaShem’s Bylaws states that hiring a Senior Rabbi or Cantor requires the approval of two thirds of members voting (Section 2) and a quorum of more than 35% of all members (Section 4).

Resolution: Should the Board of Trustees determine that it is in the best interest of the Congregation to move to another location:

  • The Board of Trustees shall make a recommendation to the Congregation to authorize the move. This recommendation shall include an explanation of the reasons, costs, and time frame envisioned.
  • The approval of a move shall require more than [35%] of all members in good standing to cast ballots at a General or Special Meeting.
  • An affirmative vote of [two thirds] of the members in good standing who cast ballots at a General or Special Meeting of the Congregation shall be necessary to authorize the Board of Trustees to initiate the process of moving.
