Katherine Schwartz, EdD, RJE

Dr. Katherine Schwartz, RJE, moved to Boulder in 1997 to serve as Har HaShem’s educator.  Since then, she and her husband, Andy, and children, Gavi and Daniel, have grown along with the congregation. In addition to overseeing all the educator programs at Har HaShem from our youngest to oldest students, Katherine is involved in Jewish education nationally, serving as the Immediate Past President of The Association for Reform Jewish Educators and as the Associate Director for the Executive MA Program in Jewish Education of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Katherine has authored teachers’ guides for the former URJ Press, Sex in the Texts and Atlas of Great Jewish Communities, and served on the advisory committee for Mishkan Hanefesh, the Reform Movement’s new machzor. Katherine is particularly passionate about her work with teens and has been a Youth Engagement Advisor of the Union for Reform Judaism’s Campaign for Youth Engagement. She loves being at camp as has been on the faculty at the URJ’s regional summer camp, OSRUI, in Wisconsin since 2001 and currently serves on OSRUI’s Rabbi Educator Cantor Council. Locally, Katherine has served as the faith representative for the state-mandated Early Childhood Council of Boulder County. Prior to coming to Har HaShem, Katherine was the educator at Congregation Sinai in Milwaukee.  Katherine holds a AB from Washington University in St. Louis, Masters degrees in Jewish Education and Jewish Non-Profit Management from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, and Doctorates in Jewish Education from The Jewish Theological Seminary of America and Religious Education, honoris causa, from Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion. Katherine holds awards in curriculum and mentoring and earned the title of Reform Jewish Educator in 1996.
