Casa de Paz Volunteer Training

Sunday, April 26, 2020 2 Iyar 5780

2:00 PM - 4:00 PMNorth Building

Join us for a training that will raise awareness about the plight of refugees in Colorado, educate us about the critical work being done by Casa de Paz, and prepare volunteers who want to support asylum-seekers and their families who are separated by detention centers.

The training will be conducted by Casa de Paz, an organization that serves detainees held at the Aurora ICE Detention Center and their families. Casa de Paz offers free shelter, meals and transportation to men and women leaving the immigrant detention center as they transition to reunite with their families in the USA. The Casa also provides lodging and meals for out-of-town families visiting their loved ones who are still detained. They provide all of these services at no cost to their guests and rely upon volunteers and donations to do their work.

This training will teach volunteers how we can:
1. Provide comfort by visiting someone held in immigrant detention;
2. Help reunite immigrants released from detention with their families, friends and sponsors in the USA by:

  • picking up immigrants from the detention center
  • bringing them to the Casa
  • working with them on travel logistics to get home
  • eating a meal together
  • providing transportation to the airport or bus station

The goal of this training is to help us all become better companions to those experiencing oppression because of our inhumane immigration system.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
