Join us for a panel discussion about immigration in Boulder County, moderated by Cathy Carlson. Panelist Mary Jo Highland, an immigration attorney at The Meyer Law Office, will provide an Immigration Law 101 and a Know Your Rights presentation. Panelist Lisa Moreno, Executive Director of El Comite de Longmont, will discuss the services and outreach El Comite provides, describe what immigrants are currently experiencing in Boulder County, and suggest ways that we, as allies, can support and help our immigrant friends. There will be time after the presentation for questions.

Mary Jo Highland, an Associate Attorney with The Meyer Law Office, a firm in Denver that specializes in immigration law and criminal and deportation defense. Before attending DU Law School where she was a Sturm Scholar and worked with the Immigration Law and Policy Clinic and the RMIAN’s Children’s Program, Mary Jo was involved in immigration activism, including working with a mother who was living in sanctuary at a church in Boulder. Since joining The Meyer Law Office, Mary Jo has specialized in the intersection between immigration and criminal law.

Lisa Moreno is the Executive Director of El Comite de Longmont, a non-profit focused on improving social justice, education, and economic status for the Latino and immigrant members of the community. Before coming to El Comite in 2023, Lisa worked for the Boulder County Community Services Department where she co-led the Boulder County Behavioral Health Planning Team and produced the Behavioral Health Roadmap. She also served as the vice president of programs at the Community Foundation Boulder County where she led the philanthropic responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Cal-Wood and LeftHand wildfires and the 2021 mass shooting.
