JYG (Junior Youth Group) is Har HaShem’s sixth and eighth grade youth group. JYG typically holds a monthly social activity, a monthly Youth Shabbat, a regional overnight MV (Missouri Valley) NFTY event, and an overnight retreat. All events center around Jewish learning, community building, and engaging students in Judaism’s most sacred traditions. Eighth graders are also encouraged to enroll in the 8th grade class; in which students are focused on deepening their Jewish learning by exploring Jewish teachings that help them understand real world topics and issues they confront in their middle and high school years.
In addition to normal youth group events, JYG kids are also welcome to attend a special Shabbat once a month that is only for kids and teens! Click here for more information and to see the dates!
JYG – Event Descriptions 2017-2018
Pearl St. Shabbat Scavenger Hunt: Saturday September 9th 2017 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm RSVP Here
Join us on Pearl St. for a couple of hours Saturday evening as we work together in groups to solve some Shabbat-themed riddles, and race against the clock to snap a photo in the correct location. The evening will wrap with a peer-led Havdalah.
Trip To Fat Cats: Sunday October 22nd 2017 from 12:00pm – 3:00 pm RSVP Here
Sunday afternoon we will spend the afternoon at Fat Cats in Westminster bowling, playing miniature golf, enjoying the arcade, and growing as a community.
BTY Takeover: Sunday December 10th 2017 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm RSVP Here
Every now and again Har HaShem’s Boulder Temple Youth Group (BTY) plans an event for our Junior Youth Group. Fun will be had by all, but these particular events are a surprise! Make sure your Junior Youth Grouper doesn’t miss it. Getting to see the older teens in leadership positions serves as motivation, and gives younger students the opportunity to meet new role models.
Middle School Retreat: 3:00pm Friday January 26th – 3:00pm Sunday January 28th
Please consider having your middle schooler join us in Winter Park for the middle school retreat. Students will spend two nights with a group of their peers learning Torah, studying sacred texts, examining big ideas through a Jewish lens, and having a lot of fun in the mountains! This is always a favorite event of students.
Spring Chavurah: 3:00pm Friday February 2nd 2018 – 3:00pm Sunday February 4th
This Regional NFTY event provides the opportunity for middle school students to spend time with their Jewish peers from all over the Missouri Valley. Practical application of our most sacred traditions is always the focus, with an emphasis on community building. Chavurahs are always favorites of the students. This event is open to 7th and 8th graders only, and will be held in St. Louis, MO this year.
All Youth Group Event: Sunday April 29th 2018 12:00pm – 2:00pm
Once a year our BTY Board plans an amazing event for all of Har HaShem’s youth groups (grades 3-12th). The event gives students a chance to see what their older peers are doing, and helps to forge bonds and facilitate Jewish development post B’nai Mitzvah and religious school. This event is peer-led, full of music, fun, and fellowship. This event is not one your student will want to miss.
Breakfast Making JCC: Sunday March 4th 2018 9:00am – 11:00am
Join us on Sunday at the Boulder JCC to meet with Boulder Jewish Teen Initiative’s Gary Brandt as we prepare and enjoy a pancake breakfast together. Cooking and great company aside, this event also serves to introduce many students to our city's larger Jewish community, our Jewish Community Center, and the great many things the space offers.
